Job summary

Hayesfield Girls' School in Bath is seeking an organised and enthusiastic Food Technology Technician to join the Design & Technology department. You will prepare ingredients and equipment for practical lessons, assist students in developing culinary skills, and uphold high standards of food safety and hygiene.

The role involves kitchen setup, assisting teachers during sessions, stock management and supplier liaison within budget, plus supporting events and Open Evenings.

Qualifications

• Set up ingredients, tools and catering equipment for lessons.
• Assist teachers during practical sessions and monitor safe use of kitchen machinery.
• Purchase ingredients within budget and maintain stock records.
• Ensure compliance with COSHH, Food Hygiene and Health & Safety regulations.
• Liaise with site team for equipment repairs and support Open Evenings.

Job description

Hayesfield Girls' School is seeking an organised and enthusiastic Food Technology Technician to join our DT department. Working closely with the Subject Lead , you will ensure our teaching kitchens run smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You will prepare ingredients and equipment for practical lessons, assist students in building their culinary skills, and maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene.,

• Kitchen Preparation: Set up ingredients, tools, and electrical catering equipment for practical lessons and demonstrations.
• Student Support: Assist teachers during practical sessions, guiding students on the safe use of kitchen machinery and equipment.
• Resource & Stock Management: Purchase ingredients within budget, negotiate prices with suppliers, and maintain stock records (including Pupil Premium support).
• Health & Safety: Ensure strict compliance with COSHH, Food Hygiene, and Health & Safety regulations across all food spaces.
• Maintenance & Events: Liaise with the site team for equipment repairs and assist with displays for Open Evenings and events.
  Catering Capability: Confident in using and demonstrating practical catering equipment.
• Student-Focused: Enthusiastic about supporting young people in a learning environment.
• Organisation : Good IT literacy for managing orders, stock records, and supplier communications.
• Physical Capability: Able to undertake physical tasks including lifting, stretching, and kitchen setup.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience in a school or commercial catering environment.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certificate (or willingness to train).
• Knowledge of COSHH and workshop Health & Safety practices.
