Job summary

Thwaites in Keswick seeks an established Food & Beverage Service Manager to lead the Restaurant, Bar and Conference & Events teams, creating exceptional hospitality. You will balance hands-on leadership with commercial and people management to deliver memorable guest experiences that keep guests returning.

As heart of the operation, you will plan staffing, manage budgets, develop your team and work closely with the Head Chef on menus and service improvements, ensuring regulatory

We're seeking an established and professional Food & Beverage Service Manager who thrives on creating amazing experiences for guests.

Your day to day:

As Food & Beverage Service Manager, you'll lead the Restaurant, Bar, Conference & Events teams, creating a culture of exceptional hospitality while ensuring every guest receives a memorable experience that keeps them coming back. You'll be at the heart of the operation, balancing hands‑on leadership with commercial and people management responsibilities.

  • Lead, motivate and inspire a diverse food & beverage team across restaurant, bar and conference & events operations, driving service excellence at every opportunity
  • Take overall responsibility for the day‑to‑day operation of all food and drink service areas
  • Conduct regular operational walk rounds, ensuring service areas are prepared to the highest standards and ready to deliver exceptional guest experiences
  • Review daily reservations, VIP arrivals, dietary requirements and upcoming events, briefing teams to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Be a visible and hands‑on leader during service periods, supporting your teams across breakfast, lunch, dinner, bar service and events when needed
  • Plan staffing levels, produce cost‑effective rotas and manage labour in line with budgets while ensuring the needs of the business are met
  • Recruit, coach and develop your team through training, performance management and regular development conversations, helping colleagues reach their full potential.
  • Work closely with the Head Chef to deliver outstanding experiences, menu launches and operational improvements
  • Monitor financial performance, sales trends and stock controls, identifying opportunities to maximise revenue and profitability
  • Ensure all food safety, health & safety and licensing requirements are fully adhered to, maintaining a safe environment for guests and colleagues
  • Review guest feedback and performance metrics, driving continuous improvements in service quality and guest satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with departments across the hotel to ensure clear communication and the successful delivery of conferences, events and guest experiences

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for an experienced Food & Beverage Manager who combines a passion for hospitality with strong commercial awareness and exceptional people management skills. You'll be someone who leads by example, thrives in a fast‑paced environment and enjoys being visible on the floor, supporting your team and delighting guests.

This is a varied and hands‑on role where no two days are the same. You'll need the flexibility to work mornings, evenings and weekends in line with the needs of the business.

You'll have:

  • Previous experience in a Food & Beverage Management role within a hotel or high‑volume hospitality environment
  • Strong operational knowledge across restaurant, bar and ideally conference & events service (not essential)
  • Experience managing rotas, budgets, stock control and driving profitability
  • Good knowledge of food safety, health & safety and hospitality compliance requirements
  • A passion for delivering outstanding guest experiences and continuously improving standards
