Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking experienced flood forecast modellers and hydrologists to join our UK-based Sustainable Water Management team. You will deliver real-time flood modelling projects, mentor juniors, contribute to tenders, and help grow our national programme.

Qualifications

• Excellent understanding of UK flood forecasting techniques, rating review, Flood Modeller, PDM and performance testing.
• Experience carrying out reviews and calculations to satisfy UK statutory bodies (EA, SEPA, NRW or DfI).
• Strong commercial awareness with experience identifying and developing business opportunities and preparing winning proposals.
• Solid understanding of client needs, opportunities and challenges, with a track record of leading and winning work.
• Excellent report-writing, technical review, numerical and analytical skills, with attention to detail.
• Chartership with a relevant professional body (or commitment to work towards within an agreed period).
• Experience and flexibility to review non-real time modelling is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical delivery (and leadership where appropriate) for flood forecast modelling and hydrology studies, including Flood Modeller-based models and hydrology boundaries (PDM).
• Undertake quality assurance and independent technical reviews of existing flood forecasting reports and products.
• Produce high-quality client- and public-facing deliverables with clear visualization and interpretation of complex data.
• Develop flood forecasting service offering with the wider modelling leadership team.
• Mentor and provide technical support for less experienced flood forecasting modellers.
• Support (and lead where appropriate) high-quality bid proposals and innovative client solutions.
• Provide project, commercial and financial management for projects and liaise with clients and stakeholders.
• Promote a safety-first attitude in line with WSP policies and procedures.
