Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is expanding its national flood forecasting capacity within the Sustainable Water Management team. The role focuses on real-time and non-real-time flood modelling, delivering high-quality reports and influencing project directions across UK clients.

You will work with hydraulic modellers and hydrologists, mentor junior staff, and contribute to tenders while maintaining a safety-first culture.

Qualifications

• Excellent understanding of UK flood forecasting techniques, rating review, Flood Modeller, PDM and performance testing.
• Experience in reviews and calculations for statutory bodies (EA, SEPA, NRW, DfI).
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to identify new business opportunities and prepare winning proposals.
• Ability to lead and win work by understanding client needs and opportunities.
• Excellent report writing, numerical, and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Chartership with a relevant professional body (or commitment to work towards).
• Experience reviewing non-real time modelling is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical delivery and leadership for flood forecast modelling and hydrology studies.
• Perform QA and independent technical reviews of flood forecasting reports and products.
• Produce client- and public-facing deliverables with clear visualization and interpretation of data.
• Support development of flood forecasting service offerings with the team and leadership.
• Mentor less experienced flood forecasting modellers and support bid proposals and innovative solutions.
• Manage projects, including technical, commercial and financial aspects.
• Liaise with clients and stakeholders and promote safety first in line with policy.
