Job summary

Saab UK in Bedfordshire seeks a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop, test and deploy safety-critical software for aircraft control systems, using MATLAB/Simulink for algorithms and data processing. You will work from requirements to verification and validation with bespoke simulations, perform real-world flight tests near the office, and present findings in reports and customer briefings.

The role requires a degree in aerospace engineering, aerodynamics knowledge, hands-on control systems

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics and their impact on flight control.
• Experience in using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience in designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: Guidance, navigation and control algorithms for fixed/rotary wing vehicles.
• Knowledge of state-of-the-art sensing systems.
• Hands-on experience with small UAS.
• MathWorks Stateflow, Simulink Coder and Embedded Coder.
• Experience developing mathematical algorithms (data fusion, state estimation).
• Experience with embedded, real-time, safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of communications systems.
• Git version control.
• C++, Java, Python development.
• Quality standards for software (DO-178, ED-20x).

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and test safety-critical software for flight control systems.
• Deploy software onto target hardware and conduct real-world flight tests near the office.
• Contribute to requirements definition and use MATLAB/Simulink to generate control laws and data-processing algorithms.
• Prepare reports and customer-facing presentations of test findings.
• Engage in team activities, SOP development, continuous improvement and quality targets.
