Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop, test and deploy safety-critical software for autonomous flight systems. You will build control laws with MATLAB/Simulink, verify with simulations, and perform real-world tests at our Bedfordshire facility.

You will collaborate across disciplines, contribute to requirements, and help improve processes while ensuring quality targets are met. A degree in aerospace engineering and SC clearance are required.

Qualifications

• Essential: Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Understanding of aerodynamics and flight mechanics and their impact on flight control.
• Experience in using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms and control laws.
• Hands-on experience in designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing SC Clearance.
• Desirable: Experience designing guidance, navigation and control for fixed/rotary wing vehicles.
• Knowledge of sensing systems and state estimation.
• Hands-on experience with small UAS.
• Mathworks Stateflow, Simulink Coder and Embedded Coder packages.
• Experience with embedded and real-time safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of communication systems and Git.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test and deploy safety-critical software for flight control systems.
• Use MATLAB/Simulink to generate control laws and data manipulation algorithms.
• Verify via bespoke simulations and conduct real-world flight testing at the test facility.
• Contribute to requirements definition and improve engineering processes and quality targets.
