Job summary

Saab UK is seeking a Flight Control Systems Engineer to develop, test and maintain safety-critical software for aircraft flight systems at our Bedfordshire facility. You will verify algorithms via bespoke simulations, then deploy to hardware and conduct real-world flight tests near the office.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team, contributing to requirements, standards and continuous improvement, with opportunities to advance in autonomous systems.

Qualifications

• Degree in aerospace engineering or similar.
• Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for developing algorithms.
• Hands-on experience designing and commissioning control systems.
• Existing Security Clearance or ability to obtain SC level clearance.
• Knowledge of sensing systems and small UAS is desirable.
• Experience with embedded and real-time safety-critical systems.
• Familiarity with data fusion and state estimation algorithms.
• Experience with software quality standards (DO-178/ED-20x).

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and test safety-critical flight control software.
• Contribute to requirements definition and verification/validation.
• Use MATLAB/Simulink to generate flight control laws and data manipulation algorithms.
• Deploy software to target hardware and conduct real-world flight testing.
• Prepare reports and customer-facing presentations on findings.
• Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team to improve processes and methods.
• Support development of standard operating procedures and best practices.
