Job summary

Staffline seeks a Fleet Maintenance Controller in Chippenham to balance hands-on vehicle knowledge with fleet oversight. You will approve repairs, control costs, and minimise downtime across a UK-wide fleet.

The role offers hybrid working after probation, a busy maintenance team, and opportunities to liaise with workshops, customers, and suppliers to ensure timely service and high standards.

Qualifications

• Qualified Vehicle Technician with City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, IMI, or equivalent automotive qualification.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair across fleet types (cars, vans, LCVs, or commercial).
• Experience in workshop, fleet management, maintenance control, service advisory, warranty, technical support, or engineering environment.
• Understanding of vehicle compliance, servicing schedules, MOT requirements, and repair processes.
• Ability to challenge repair recommendations with workshops and suppliers.
• Excellent communication and professional handling of difficult conversations.

Responsibilities

• Assess and authorise maintenance and repair requests, ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely completion.
• Challenge suppliers to ensure best value and compliance with standards.
• Monitor downtime and manage repairs to maximise fleet availability.
• Liaise with workshops, customers, and suppliers on progress and timelines.
• Ensure maintenance records and vehicle information are accurately recorded.
• Review estimates and invoices for correct pricing and procedures.
• Escalate technical or commercial concerns when required.
• Deliver high standards of customer service within deadlines and SLAs.

Are you a qualified Vehicle Technician looking to move away from the tools while still utilising your technical expertise? This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected fleet management business that supports a large and diverse vehicle fleet across the UK. Working as part of a busy maintenance team, you will play a key role in controlling vehicle repairs, reducing downtime, managing costs, and delivering exceptional customer service to fleet clients.

Responsibilities - Fleet Maintenance Controller

• Assess and authorise vehicle maintenance and repair requests, ensuring work is necessary, cost-effective, and completed within agreed labour times.
• Challenge suppliers and repairers where appropriate to ensure best value and compliance with maintenance standards.
• Monitor vehicle downtime and proactively manage repairs to maximise fleet availability.
• Liaise with workshops, customers, and suppliers to provide updates on repair progress and expected completion times.
• Ensure all maintenance records, authorisations, and vehicle information are accurately recorded within company systems.
• Review estimates and invoices to ensure correct pricing and repair procedures have been applied.
• Escalate technical, commercial, or customer concerns when required.
• Deliver a high standard of customer service while working to deadlines, KPIs, and service level agreements.

Experience / Qualifications - Fleet Maintenance Controller

• Qualified Vehicle Technician with City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3, IMI, or equivalent automotive qualification.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair, ideally covering cars, vans, LCVs, or commercial vehicles.
• Previous experience within a workshop, fleet management, maintenance control, service advisory, warranty, technical support, or engineering environment.
• Good understanding of vehicle compliance, servicing schedules, MOT requirements, and repair processes.
• Ability to challenge repair recommendations and discuss technical matters confidently with workshops and suppliers.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to manage difficult conversations professionally.
• Organised and able to work effectively within a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
• Customer-focused with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
