Job summary

SGN is looking for an Emergency Gas Responder (FCO) to cover multiple sites including Oxford, Banbury, Bicester and Chipping Norton. You will respond to gas leaks, engage with customers and work to keep people safe and warm, with standby and overtime opportunities.

A current ACS qualification (CCN1 or CESPI) is required, ideally MET1–4, plus a full UK driving licence. Base salary £37.8k per year, increasing to £42k after probation, with excellent benefits.

• Flexibility to work in a 24/7 rota, including out-of-hours and weekends.
• Ability to learn and develop, adapt to changing situations and keep calm under pressure.
• Willingness to work as part of a team with clear safety and customer-focus.

Responsibilities

• Identify gas leaks in homes, businesses and outdoor settings to keep people safe.
• Engage with customers with confidence and clear communication about gas services.
• Resolve customer issues to deliver high standards of service.
• Apply knowledge to solve complex situations, ensuring safety for people, property and environment.
• Attend gas escapes within deadlines to maintain reliable service.
• Keep the van, tools and PPE well-maintained and ready for on-call duties.

• Working independently in homes, businesses and outside to identify gas leaks and keep people safe
• Engaging with customers across our network, speaking to them with confidence and knowledge, active listening and understanding their service issues
• Resolving customer situations for a 10/10 customer service experience every time
• Using your ever-growing knowledge of gas services to problem solve complex situations and make situations safe for people, property and the environment
• Attending assigned gas escapes within a regulated deadline to ensure our service is robust, effective and customer-focused
• Ensuring your van is well-maintained and equipped, carrying the equipment, tools and PPE required to achieve results and keep yourself safe
• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night - standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours.

You will need…

• A friendly and approachable attitude with excellent customer service skills, as you will be dealing with members of the public
• A current ACS qualification, CCN1 or CESPI, and ideally MET1 to 4
• You thrive in an environment involving public interaction, adapting to situations and remaining calm during situations
• You are curious, always wanting to learn and develop your skills. You seek knowledge from others and like to push and challenge yourself.
• You are flexible with working as part of a team rota that covers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means out of hours and weekend working is standard. This is managed through a transparent rota and additional compensation is paid
• A full and valid UK manual driving licence is essential
