Job summary

SGN is seeking Trainee Gas Engineers in Edinburgh to support on-site gas service and mains repair work. You will learn from experienced engineers, assist with excavations and pipe lay, and participate in essential operations to keep gas supplies running 24/7.

You must be prepared for a rotating schedule, weekends and nights, and hold a valid UK driving licence. Clean shaven with a face fit test is required for PPE safety.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid UK driving licence
• Based within a commutable distance from Edinburgh
• Clean shaven and able to pass a face fit test
• Willing to work a rota including weekends and nights

Responsibilities

• Support engineers on site and learn from them during gas service and mains repair activities
• Excavation, digging in public and private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes
• Be part of essential works to keep gas supply running; standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job ensuring equipment is ready and safe

EdinburghSalary: £29,327 per annum (increase to £32,586 upon successful completion of probationary period)

• Support engineers on site and learning from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities
• Excavation, digging in the public & private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes so you will work in various outdoor environments safely and as part of a team
• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night – standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours
• You will maintain the SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring your team has all the equipment to do your job safely and efficiently.

Will be required to be clean shaven: As part of our commitment to the personal safety of our employees you will be required to be clean shaven, and pass a face fit test, to wear tight fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus. This is for personal protection to ensure you don’t breathe in any harmful substances, whilst carrying out critical work within our communities.

Holds a valid UK driver’s licence: A full, valid UK driver’s licence is essential for this role.

Due to operational response times, you must be based within a commutable distance from the desired locations.
