Job summary

Searchability is seeking a Fire & Security Engineer to cover the central Southern patch along the M4 corridor, ideally based around Reading, Bracknell or Basingstoke. The role blends installation and service of CCTV, Intruder alarms and Access Control, with travel to nearby sites.

This is a development-focused position with mentoring and a clear progression path within a growing Fire & Security organisation.

Qualifications

• Fire & Security apprenticeship, equivalent training or relevant industry experience.
• Hands-on field engineering experience.
• Experience with CCTV and Intruder Alarm systems.
• Installation and/or servicing experience.
• Understanding of IP-based security technology.
• Access Control knowledge beneficial.
• Fire Alarm experience beneficial but not essential.
• Good diagnostic and fault-finding ability.
• Willingness to learn new systems and manufacturer technologies.
• Strong customer-facing skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Comfortable with occasional UK travel / working away.

Responsibilities

• Work across installation and service of CCTV, Intruder Alarms and Access Control as part of a diverse security portfolio.
• Gain exposure to IP-based systems and Fire Security technology while learning from experienced engineers.
• Operate around Reading, Bracknell, Basingstoke or the wider M4 corridor, with occasional travel to London and other UK locations as needed.
• Receive mentoring from the Southern Team Leader and develop toward more responsibility as experience grows.

ABOUT THE CLIENT

We're working with an established Fire & Security organisation that is continuing to expand its engineering presence across the South.

They're now looking for a Fire & Security Engineer to cover their central Southern patch, ideally based around Reading, Bracknell, Basingstoke or the surrounding M4 corridor.

This could be particularly well suited to someone who has completed their apprenticeship, gained some hands‑on field experience and now wants an environment where they can properly develop as an engineer. More experienced engineers will equally be considered.

THE FIRE & SECURITY ENGINEER ROLE:

You’ll work across both installation and service, supporting a varied portfolio of Security systems with a particular emphasis on CCTV and Intruder Alarms.

You’ll also gain exposure to Access Control, IP-based systems and Fire Security technology, working alongside experienced engineers who can support your continued technical development.

The ideal location is around Reading, Bracknell, Basingstoke or the wider M4 corridor. This puts you centrally between the existing engineering teams and close to a significant proportion of the organisation’s Southern customer base.

There will occasionally be requirements to travel further afield, including London and other UK locations, but the aim is to manage work geographically and keep engineers relatively local wherever possible.

You’ll have access to experienced technical support and hands‑on mentoring, including support from the Southern Team Leader. It’s a good opportunity for somebody who already has the foundations but wants to keep learning and take on more responsibility as their experience develops.
