Job summary

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking a Fire Safety Advisor to deliver high quality fire safety advice to senior management and contractors across its estate. The role includes audit participation, fire drill programmes, and development of fire safety training resources to ensure compliance with fire safety standards.

The post requires at least three years of related experience, knowledge of fire legislation, and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Must have at least three years experience with fire safety knowledge and applicable legislation.
• Experience with advising senior management and coordinating with architects, authorities and contractors.
• Ability to interpret and apply fire safety legislation in a complex healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide fire safety advice to NHS Lanarkshire senior management and independent contractors.
• Participate in audit and fire drill programmes using specialised training programmes.
• Identify health care managers who need service and audit Fire Safety arrangements across NHS Lanarkshire.

The Role

Responsible for the delivery of high quality fire safety advice, meeting the needs of the NHS and other Salus customers:-

• Advising the NHS senior management on fire safety issues.
• Liaising with architects, consultants, the Health and Safety Executive, Fire Brigade and local government Building Officers on matters relating to fire precautions.
• Ensuring that the Fire Brigade, Local Authority, etc. is informed of any work that may affect the fire safety of any building within the NHS Lanarkshire estate.
• Assisting with the application for Fire Certificates, and alterations to these certificates and ensure compliance with fire safety notices.
• In particular, providing advice and assistance to the Independent Contractors, and line management and staff in NHS Lanarkshire.
• Assisting with the development, implementation and delivery of fire safety training resources as required.
• Liaising with other professionals to establish Fire Risk Management techniques as an approach to Health and Safety within NHS Lanarkshire and other organisations, as required.

In this key role, you will:

• The post holder will provide fire safety advice to senior management of NHS Lanarkshire, including those of Independent Contractors, and participate in audit and fire drill programmes, using specialised fire training programmes to ensure that individuals within the organisation are meeting their fire safety responsibilities.
• The post holder will help to identify all health care managers who may have need of the service, establish contacts, and audit the Fire Safety arrangements of all areas within NHS Lanarkshire.
• The post holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of a comprehensive Fire Health and Safety service to NHS Lanarkshire and to other NHS customers while establishing links with other customers in the private sector.
• The post holder will ensure that contractors working within the NHS Lanarkshire estate are aware of the fire safety standards required and take steps to ensure that their activities do not compromise these standards.

What You'll Bring:

• Must have at least three years experience to ensure is “competent person” with theoretical knowledge of a range of work procedures, including current fire legislation, which will require to be enhanced by commitment by continuing professional development.
• Must have knowledge of fire related activities acquired in clinical and non-clinical practices, in both Primary Care and Acute settings.
• Judgements involving complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
• Assists the Area Fire Safety Advisor in the resolving of organisational issues in relation to interpretation and compliance with relevant fire safety legislation, in an organisation, which is very complex, and where interpretation and implications are routinely analysed.
• A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
