Job summary

Bromsgrove District Council and Redditch Borough Council are seeking a proactive Benefits Advisor to support customers with housing benefits, council tax reduction and related schemes. The role currently involves telephone advice and may include face-to-face support in the future.

You will gather information accurately, enter data onto systems, promote uptake of available benefits, and help customers access the support they need to achieve greater financial independence.

Qualifications

• We are looking for a customer focused individual with experience of using a variety of ICT systems and a willingness to develop new and innovative working practices.
• Applicants should be educated to GCSE level (4-9) or equivalent, including Maths and English, or possess demonstrable work-related experience in the field of Benefits (Housing Benefit & Council Tax Reduction Scheme).

Responsibilities

• To provide accurate and appropriate advice and support to customers in response to their queries.
• To ensure the provision of excellent customer care throughout the service.
• To ensure the correct information is gathered, and entered onto relevant systems, to assess claims and requests for support in accordance with policies and guidance.
• To ensure that take up of benefit and other support is encouraged.
• To support the strategic purpose to help customers become financially independent by understanding and assess customer needs.
• To help customers to access the support they need to meet their needs.
