Job description

Your new company

An ambitious and growing specialist advisory business is looking to appoint an accomplished Senior Manager to join its accounting and financial reporting team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone currently working within a Top 10 or similar accountancy firm who enjoys the technical and advisory side of practice but would like greater autonomy, broader client exposure and a clearer route towards Director. The business works with a varied portfolio of organisations with complex accounting and reporting requirements, including larger corporates, international groups and high-growth businesses. The work is technically interesting and project-led rather than focused on routine compliance.

Your new role

As Senior Manager, you will take a leading role across a portfolio of complex accounting and financial reporting advisory assignments, acting as a trusted technical adviser to senior finance teams. Projects will include complex financial reporting matters, group and consolidation work, acquisition accounting, financial statement preparation and other technically challenging accounting assignments. Alongside your client responsibilities, you will play a significant leadership role within the team, helping to manage, develop and motivate a wider group of approximately 15-20 people. You will have considerable autonomy and the opportunity to influence how the team develops as the business continues to grow. Importantly, this role is intended to offer genuine progression, with the successful individual expected to have the ambition and capability to develop towards Director.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be a technically strong ACA-qualified accountant, ideally trained within a Top 10 accountancy firm or comparable environment.

You are likely to bring:

  • Strong academics and a high level of technical accounting capability
  • Significant experience across audit and financial reporting, or a dedicated financial reporting / accounting advisory team
  • Excellent knowledge of IFRS and UK GAAP
  • Confidence dealing with complex accounting and reporting matters
  • Experience leading significant client assignments from initial scoping through to delivery
  • Strong written skills, including producing high-quality technical papers and presenting conclusions clearly to clients, both of which form part of the underlying technical brief
  • Proven people leadership skills, with the ability to coach, delegate and develop individuals at different stages of their careers
  • The credibility to work confidently with senior client stakeholders
  • A genuine desire to progress further and ultimately develop into a Director-level position

Previous business development experience would be useful, but it isn't essential. The priority is finding someone technically excellent, commercially aware and capable of developing both clients and people.

What you'll get in return

This is a particularly attractive opportunity for someone who wants to retain the technical quality and complexity of work associated with a leading accountancy firm, while moving into a more specialist advisory environment with greater visibility and influence. You'll have the opportunity to take ownership at a senior level, work closely with the leadership team and build towards a future Director role as the business develops.
