Your new company

Hays Senior Finance has been retained by a family-owned SME manufacturing business in the Worcestershire area to appoint a new Financial Controller on a permanent basis. The company has experienced strong growth in recent years and is looking for an experienced individual who aspires to become a Finance Director in the future.

Your new role

Reporting to the Group Finance Director, you will be responsible for leading all finance and accounting operations locally while managing a small, well-established team.

Main duties:

1. Managing day-to-day operations including AP, AR, NL, cost accounting, stock accounting, and payroll
2. Coordinating month-end and year-end close processes
3. Preparing and directing the budget and other financial forecasts
4. Preparing and publishing monthly financial statements
5. Overseeing the audit process, including the preparation of statutory accounts and liaising with auditors
6. Managing cash flow
7. Preparing quarterly VAT returns
8. Supervising and developing the finance team (5 staff)
9. Streamlining and improving financial operations, processes, and systems
10. Supporting financial strategy and decision-making

What you'll need to succeed

• Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with post-qualification experience
• Experience in management accounts, year-end financial statements, budgets, and projections
• Proven track record in an SME, preferably within manufacturing
• Ability to work closely with both financial and non-financial staff
• Persuasive and confident personality capable of challenging and influencing
• Ability to motivate, manage, and develop staff
• Strong Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software (Sage is an advantage)
