Job summary

A luxury outdoor furniture retailer is seeking a Financial Controller to manage financial operations, collaborate with the Finance Director, and ensure accurate financial practices as the company expands. The ideal candidate will have accounting qualifications and familiarity with Sage 200. Responsibilities include leading accounting operations, maintaining financial controls, and producing Management Accounts. Salary ranges from £35,000 to £40,000 depending on experience, with typical hours from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm.

Job description

This is an exceptional opportunity to join a thriving luxury outdoor furniture retailer as their Financial Controller, working directly alongside the Finance Director at an exciting time of growth and innovation. In this pivotal role, you will take full ownership of the company's financial operations—shaping processes, driving accuracy, and ensuring the business remains in strong financial health as it continues to expand its premium brand presence.

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000 (DOE)

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm

Start: ASAP

What will your working week be like?
  • Lead daily accounting operations including invoicing, credit control, supplier payments, and query resolution.
  • Maintain robust financial controls through accurate reconciliations, reporting, and cashflow forecasting.
  • Produce timely, high-quality Management Accounts and ensure all statutory returns (such as VAT) are submitted on schedule.
  • Oversee and optimise the Sage 200 accounting system.
  • Manage import documentation and purchasing activities, including raising POs and liaising closely with international suppliers.
  • Take the lead on annual stocktakes, identifying and reporting discrepancies.
  • Play a key role in supporting business improvements, upholding company standards, and maintaining strong compliance and health & safety procedures.
Do you have the required skills & experience?
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
  • Accounting qualifications, Sage 200 knowledge, and experience with Microsoft Server/remote sessions (Desirable).
  • Friendly, approachable, and motivated, with the confidence to use your initiative.
  • Skilled at identifying issues, proposing solutions, and making sound judgments.
  • A strong team player who contributes positively to a collaborative environment.
  • Clear, proactive communication skills and a natural ability to ask the right questions.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and comfortable navigating change.
  • Commercially aware with a keen eye for opportunities to support business growth.
  • Exceptionally organised with strong time‑management skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
