Job summary

Eaton Syalon Ltd is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead the day‑to‑day finance function in a fast‑growing SME based in Burton upon Trent. You will report to the Finance Director and oversee a five‑strong team, ensuring accurate month‑end, robust controls and insightful commercial reporting.

The ideal candidate will be ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified (or strong QBE) with prior Financial Controller level experience in an owner‑managed environment, ready to own the numbers and drive

• Hands‑on operator who owns the finance function and drives improvements.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts across group entities.
• Deliver variance analysis and commentary for the business.
• Manage group cashflow forecasting, liquidity and working capital.
• Oversee VAT, HMRC submissions and statutory compliance.
• Lead and develop a finance team of five.
• Support the Finance Director with commercial initiatives.

Cracking interim opportunity for an experienced Financial Controller to join a successful, privately owned and fast-growing SME based in Burton upon Trent.

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this is a broad, hands‑on role taking responsibility for the day‑to‑day running of the finance function and leading an established team of five.

The business operates across multiple entities and has grown significantly through continued investment, creating a great opportunity for someone who enjoys getting close to the numbers, improving processes and working within a fast‑paced owner‑managed environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Producing monthly management accounts across five group companies
• Delivering insightful variance analysis and commentary
• Managing group cashflow forecasting, liquidity and working capital
• Maintaining strong balance sheet controls and financial reporting processes
• Overseeing VAT, HMRC submissions and statutory compliance
• Managing and supporting a finance team of five
• Overseeing transactional finance and ensuring an efficient month‑end close
• Identifying opportunities to improve controls, processes and reporting through automation
• Business partnering with operational and departmental leaders across the group
• Supporting the Finance Director with wider commercial and improvement initiatives

We're looking for an ACA, ACCA or CIMA‑qualified accountant, or a strong QBE, with previous Financial Controller / senior finance leadership experience within an SME or owner‑managed environment.

You'll need to be a hands‑on operator who is comfortable taking ownership of the finance function, managing multiple priorities and ensuring the day‑to‑day numbers are accurate while also driving improvements.

This would particularly suit someone who enjoys owning month end, investigating variances, managing the balance sheet, developing a team and being the Finance Director's trusted number two.
