Job description
Overview

We are looking for a Financial Accountant (Insurance) to join us for an FTC until the end of May 2026. The Finance Shared Services Centre is a fast moving, customer focused team, providing a range of professional services to support the Wincanton business and its customers.


The role is hybrid with a requirement to be onsite Tuesday and Wednesday each week.


Hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and can be flexible with start and finish times.


Responsibilities


  • Lead and streamline external audit preparation and documentation

  • Act as primary liaison with site teams for audit evidence gathering

  • Take full ownership of insurance accounting, improving accuracy and accountability

  • Responsible for the insurance balance sheets—ensuring that reconciliations are completed, reviewed, and reconciling items are actioned on a timely basis via Blackline

  • Develop SOPs

  • Identify areas for continued improvement and create a controls environment in line with the accounting controls framework to mitigate the risk of material error or misstatement

  • Ensure prompt escalation of issues

  • Provide cover for team members

  • Other accounting duties and projects as required to support the Financial Shared Services Centre


What will you bring?


  • A good understanding of insurance accounting concepts to manage the timing and treatment of transactions

  • A Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA) or QBE

  • Experience of working to deadlines

  • Excellent reconciliation skills

  • Ability to identify process improvements that deliver quality / efficiency benefits

  • A keen eye for detail and financial controls

  • Be able to work under pressure whilst maintaining high standards

  • Must be flexible and respond positively and accurately to internal and external customer requests

  • High proficiency in Excel including pivot tables and formulas

  • Be proactive, inquisitive with a passion for challenging teams to drive performance and a commitment to continuous improvement
