Job summary

Peopleforge in Pilton, Somerset is seeking a Finance Manager to take ownership of day-to-day finances for three enterprises within a family-run farming business. You will manage bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, pensions and credit control, and produce timely financial reports for owners and management.

You will work with external accountants and advisers to maintain strong financial controls, reconcile accounts and ensure accurate records.

Qualifications

• AAT Level 4 qualified with strong bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and reporting experience.
• Able to work independently and own financial responsibilities.
• Experience managing finances across multiple enterprises is preferred.

Finance Manager

Pilton, Somerset

£40,000-£45,000 + Company Pension + Monday-Friday + Flexible Working Hours + Free On-Site Parking

Are you a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or experienced Senior Bookkeeper with an AAT Level 4 qualification and strong experience in bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and financial reporting, looking for the opportunity to take ownership of the finances within an established, family-run agricultural business?

On offer is the opportunity to join a successful and progressive farming business operating across dairy, poultry and arable farming. You'll become a key member of a close-knit team, working directly with the owners and management to oversee financial operations across three established enterprises, with genuine responsibility and autonomy in a varied, hands-on position.

In this role, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day financial management of the business, including bookkeeping, purchase and sales ledgers, VAT returns, payroll, pensions and credit control. You'll also prepare financial reports, manage reconciliations and work closely with external accountants and advisers to ensure accurate financial records and effective financial controls across the business.

This role would suit an experienced finance professional who enjoys managing a broad range of accounting responsibilities and working independently. You'll need to be AAT Level 4 qualified, highly organised and confident dealing with colleagues, suppliers and external advisers. Previous agricultural experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

The Role

• Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and financial records across three enterprises.
• Oversee purchase and sales ledgers, invoicing and supplier payments.
• Prepare VAT returns, payroll and pension administration.
• Manage credit control, bank reconciliations and cash records.
• Produce financial reports for the owners and management team.
• Maintain financial controls and ensure accurate accounting processes.
• Liaise with accountants, HMRC, banks and external advisers.
• Support year-end accounts and wider financial administration.

The Person

• AAT Level 4 qualified.
• Experience as a Finance Manager, Financial Controller or Senior Bookkeeper.
• Strong background in bookkeeping, VAT, payroll and credit control.
• Confident managing financial records, reconciliations and reporting.
• Good Excel skills and experience using accounting software.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisation and communication skills.
• Able to work independently and take ownership of financial responsibilities.
• Agricultural accounting or Landmark software experience advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence and able to work on-site in Pilton.
