Job summary

Accountancy Recruit is partnering with an SME in Liverpool to recruit an Accountant or Finance Manager. The role will oversee the day-to-day financial management and a direct report handling AP/AR, with responsibility for month-end, cash flow, and budgeting.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of accounting experience, strong Excel/Sage 50 and payroll knowledge, and excellent communication skills to liaise with the MD and senior management. A hands-on, proactive finance leader is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' relevant accounting experience, ideally within an SME or similar hands-on environment.
• Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Sage 50 Accounts and Payroll.
• Strong knowledge of VAT, CIS, payroll, bank reconciliations and month-end procedures.
• Experience preparing management accounts.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate confidently at all levels within the business.

Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management and operation of the company's finance function.
• Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including P&L and balance sheet reporting.
• Provide financial analysis and commentary to the Managing Director and senior management team.
• Monitor financial performance and identify areas of concern or opportunity.
• Assist with annual budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
• Prepare and maintain cash-flow forecasts and monitor the company's working capital position.
• Maintain appropriate financial controls and procedures.
• Maintain the company's Fixed Asset Register.
• Complete month-end procedures, including prepayments and accruals.
• Prepare financial information and supporting schedules for the company's external accountants and audits.
• Oversee and manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, directly overseeing one team member.
• Manage credit control, ensuring outstanding debts are actively monitored and collected.
• Complete regular bank reconciliations.
• Manage petty cash.
• Complete VAT reconciliations, VAT returns, CIS reconciliations and CIS returns.
• Ensure all statutory and financial deadlines are met accurately and on time.
• Manage the company's monthly payroll process, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
• Liaise with relevant external providers and HMRC where required.
• Monitor and analyse costs, margins and financial performance where required.
• Provide financial information to assist management in commercial and operational decision-making.

The salary advertised for this role is a guideline and the salary offered will be commensurate with experience.
