A major healthcare trust in the UK is looking for a finance professional to support budget management and financial analysis. The role involves working closely with clinical managers to enhance budgetary control and improve financial performance. Provide support to the Assistant Head of Finance in the delivery of highly specialist support to the corporate decision making process with respect to the financial and statutory obligations of the Trust's Financial Management function. The role has responsibility for providing comprehensive financial management information and support to a group of clinical and departmental budgets. Be a key member of the Trust's Financial Department and contribute to the delivery of its overall objectives. Provide financial information and advice to the Divisional General Manager, Clinical Directors and other managers within the relevant Directorates. Meet regularly with these managers to identify potential financial problems early and take corrective action as necessary. Take overall responsibility for all aspects of budgetary management within the relevant directorates, including monitoring performance and advising on corrective action. Lead the Division in the annual budget setting process and implement and monitor recharging mechanisms to improve budgetary control (e.g. Radiology). Authorise specific expenditure within the Directorates (e.g. Works recharges) and the advertisement of vacant posts to ensure funding is available. Actively participate in and contribute to the formulation and implementation of the Divisional Business Plans in line with the Trust's strategic aims and objectives, and provide support and advice on financial and non-financial aspects of the Plans. Provide the Head of Management Accounts with information to enable corporate reporting, including explanations of significant variance movements for inclusion in the Trust Board Report. Support Clinical Directors and Service Managers in identifying and achieving cost improvement and income generation targets, undertaking reviews of existing practices to improve efficiency. Develop new costing and budgeting methodologies for managerial and commercial use. Review Directorates costs relative to national norms and other provider units and verify significant variations. Monitor the service provided by the relevant Directorates to other Trusts under Service Level Agreements (SLA) and renegotiate SLAs as necessary. Take financial responsibility in competitive tendering processes to ensure best value and prepare financial option appraisal reports for presentation to the Trust Board with recommendations.
