Responsibilities

  • Process purchase orders, invoices, expenses and credit card transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Support month-end processes and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
  • Maintain organised and auditable financial records in line with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with staff, suppliers and colleagues to resolve queries promptly and professionally.
  • Assist with procurement and supplier management in line with value-for-money principles.

Reporting to: Chief Finance Officer

Aspire. Achieve. Together. Telford Park School, part of Amethyst Academies Trust, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our dedicated support team.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a thriving secondary school where high expectations, strong values and excellent support combine to help every young person succeed. Working closely with school leaders and the Trust finance team, you will play an important role in ensuring our financial systems operate efficiently, accurately and in line with Trust procedures.

The Opportunity

As Finance Assistant, you will support the day-to-day financial operations of the school, helping ensure that resources are managed effectively to maximise opportunities for our students.

You will:
  • Deliver accurate financial processing, ensuring transactions are completed efficiently and in accordance with Trust procedures.
  • Support budget management, providing reliable financial information to support decision-making.
  • Maintain strong financial controls, ensuring compliance with Trust financial regulations and audit requirements.
  • Build positive working relationships with staff, suppliers, students, parents and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, supporting the development of efficient finance systems and processes.

Your work will play a vital role in ensuring public funds are managed responsibly, supporting the school's commitment to providing the very best education and opportunities for all students.

Key Areas of Responsibility
Financial Operations
  • Process purchase orders, invoices, expenses and credit card transactions accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain organised and auditable financial records in line with Trust policies and procedures.
  • Support month-end processes and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
Procurement and Supplier Management
  • Liaise with suppliers and colleagues to resolve queries promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate supplier records and support fraud prevention controls.
  • Ensure purchasing activity complies with Trust procurement procedures and value-for-money principles.
Budget and Income Support
  • Assist with monitoring budgets and outstanding commitments.
  • Support income processing, reconciliations and banking procedures.
  • Follow up outstanding balances in line with agreed school and Trust processes.
Compliance and Governance
  • Ensure compliance with Trust policies, financial regulations and relevant education sector guidance.
  • Support internal and external audit activities.
  • Adhere to GDPR, safeguarding, health and safety, and other statutory requirements.
Who We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will have:
  • Experience working within a busy finance, administration or business support environment.
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and organisation.
  • A good understanding of financial processes and the importance of maintaining robust audit trails.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • A proactive, flexible and reliable approach to work.
  • A commitment to professional development, including working towards or holding an AAT qualification.
  • Experience of working within a school, academy trust or public sector finance environment, together with knowledge of systems such as Xero or ApprovalMax, would be advantageous.

Hours: 25 hours per week, Term Time Only + 3 weeks (Permanent) Monday to Friday 5 Hours per day

Grade: NJC Scale Grade 4, SCP 7-11 (£27,274 - £29,071 FTE | £17,070 - 18195 pro rata)
