Job summary

Clitheroe Royal Grammar School is seeking a Finance Assistant to join the Finance Team. The role supports a range of financial processes and requires attention to detail, strong communication, and ability to manage priorities in a busy setting.

Part-time, term-time only with pro-rata salary. Training provided; safeguarding and DBS checks may apply. Closing date 09/10/2026 at 12 noon.

Qualifications

  • 5 GCSE level 5-9 or equivalents including Maths and English.
  • Experience in a busy finance/administrative environment is advantageous but full training will be provided.
  • Proven ability to handle numerical data accurately and maintain financial records.
  • Competent in MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word) and safeguarding responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support a range of financial processes within the school finance team.
  • Assist with day-to-day financial administration and record-keeping.
  • Collaborate with Finance Manager and Senior Finance Assistant to deliver financial services across the school.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused service to stakeholders and maintain accuracy under pressure.

Summary: We are delighted to offer an opportunity to join the Finance Team at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School as a Finance Assistant. As a large Single Academy Trust we are committed to providing an outstanding education for our students while ensuring our support services operate efficiently and effectively. The Finance Team plays a vital role in the day-to-day running of the school, supporting colleagues across both sites and helping to ensure resources are managed responsibly.

We are seeking to appoint a conscientious, organised and enthusiastic Finance Assistant to support a wide range of financial processes. Experience of working within a busy finance or administrative environment would be advantageous, although full training will be provided for the right candidate. The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced environment.

Working alongside the Senior Finance Assistant, Finance and Payroll Officer and the Finance Manager, the successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of financial services across the whole school. This varied role offers the opportunity to develop knowledge and experience across a range of finance functions and would suit someone who enjoys working collaboratively as part of a supportive team.

Essential Qualifications
  • 5 GCSE level 5-9 or equivalent to include Maths and English
Desirable Qualifications
  • AAT qualification (or working towards) or equivalent finance-related qualification
Essential Experience
  • Ability to work with numerical data accurately and confidently
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook and Word
  • Demonstrate an understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and suitability to work with children and young people
  • Ability to provide a professional and customer-focused service to a range of stakeholders
Desirable Experience
  • Experience of working within an education or public sector environment
  • Knowledge of SCOPay and Schools Cash Office
  • Experience of SAGE Education or similar finance management system
  • Experience of processing financial transactions using online banking systems
