Job summary

Principal I Ltd is seeking a Field Service & PDI Engineer to install, service, repair, and support multifunctional printers and related office technology. The role blends field-based copier engineering with IT support and Pre-Delivery Inspection responsibilities to ensure devices are configured and deployed to high standards.

You will travel to customer sites and attend Head Office as required, update records in company systems, and provide technical guidance.

Qualifications

• Experience as a field service engineer for photocopiers/printers or similar equipment.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP and Wi‑Fi networking.
• Experience configuring multifunctional devices in networked environments.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication abilities.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.
• Valid UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Install, service, maintain and repair multifunctional printers, copiers, scanners and related office technology.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, software and connectivity faults.
• Respond to customer service calls within agreed SLAs.
• Complete preventative maintenance visits to maximise equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.
• Accurately record service activity, parts usage and customer interactions in company systems.
• Provide technical guidance and user support to customers as required.
• Configure devices for network environments including TCP/IP, print drivers, cloud services and document management solutions.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity issues related to printers and MFDs.
• Support integration with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, network folders and secure print solutions.
• Configure firmware updates and software applications for managed print services.
• Liaise with customer IT departments and internal teams to resolve complex issues.
• Conduct full Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI) on equipment prior to installation.

Job Summary

The Field Service & PDI Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and support of multifunctional print devices, IT-connected office equipment, and related technology solutions. The role combines field-based copier engineering, IT support skills, and Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) responsibilities to ensure equipment is prepared, configured, and deployed to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

Field Service Engineering

• Install, service, maintain, and repair multifunctional printers, photocopiers, scanners, and associated office technology.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, software, and connectivity faults.
• Respond to customer service calls within agreed service level agreements (SLAs).
• Complete preventative maintenance visits to maximise equipment reliability and customer satisfaction.
• Accurately record service activity, parts usage, and customer interactions using company systems.
• Provide technical advice and user guidance to customers where required.

IT & Network Support

• Configure devices for network environments including TCP/IP, print drivers, scan-to-email, cloud services, and document management solutions.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity issues relating to printers and MFDs.
• Support integration with Microsoft 365, Active Directory, network folders, and secure print solutions.
• Configure and maintain firmware updates and software applications associated with managed print services.

Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI)

• Conduct full pre-delivery inspections on all equipment prior to customer installation.
• Build, configure, test, and quality-check devices to ensure readiness for deployment.

• Prepare delivery documentation and equipment records.
• Ensure all assets, accessories, and consumables are correctly allocated and packaged.

Operational Support

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential

• Previous experience as a photocopier, printer, or field service engineer.
• Good understanding of networking principles including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Wi-Fi networking.
• Experience configuring multifunctional devices in networked environments.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.

Desirable

• Experience with managed print solutions.
