Job summary

Work Lyf Group Ltd is seeking a skilled Field Service Engineer to service a fleet of locomotives across the UK. The role is home-based with UK travel and requires strong diesel engine experience and fault-finding expertise.

You will perform maintenance, repairs, and installations at customer sites, driving reliability and performance while working independently to meet safety standards and customer expectations.

Qualifications

• Engineering Advanced Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• BTEC National Certificate, ONC in Engineering, or similar qualification.
• Proven experience working with diesel engines and associated systems.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach.
• The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults.
• Complete reliability inspections and preventative maintenance checks.
• Identify potential fleet issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Participate in a rolling day/night on-call rota.
• Provide technical support and advice to customers and colleagues.
• Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and on time.
• Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety procedures and industry regulations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and ongoing fleet upgrades.

Work Lyf Group are recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering organisation for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join their Contract Maintenance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer with strong diesel engine experience to work on a fleet of locomotives across the UK, providing both planned and reactive maintenance to ensure maximum reliability and operational performance.

The Role

Working predominantly as a lone engineer, you will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs, fault finding, and modifications across customer sites throughout the UK. You will play a vital role in ensuring fleet availability while delivering exceptional service standards.
