Operations and Maintenance Engineer

Location: Slough, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom (Remote)

We are recruiting an Operations & Maintenance Engineer for Highways England Contracts, focusing on maintenance and commissioning activities in designated areas including the M25, M4, M11, M1, A14, M40, and A1(M).

This role suits someone who enjoys working with a supportive team but also uses initiative to solve problems in the field. Our field teams are vital for contract delivery, including maintenance, installation, cabling, and civils works, helping to keep critical infrastructure connected and secure 24/7.

Responsibilities include:

• Attending to cable breaks and repairs on copper and fibre cables.
• Completing equipment commissioning to standards, on time and within budget.
• Addressing equipment issues in Transmission Buildings and Roadside Cabinets, day or night.
• Maintaining and testing fibre and copper equipment.
• Completing required documentation promptly.

Candidate Requirements:

Previous experience in a similar role, with fault finding and testing in fibre or copper environments preferred.

Key Requirements:

• Experience with motorway communications or related systems.
• Knowledge of telecommunications networks, copper jointing, fibre splicing, and testing.
• Strong health and safety awareness.
• Ability to repair fibre or copper cable breaks.
• Willingness to work overtime or on call as needed.
• Full UK driving license.
