Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is seeking a dedicated Farm-Based Teacher or Instructor for an Alternative Provision in the Ribble Valley countryside near Clitheroe.

The role welcomes qualified or unqualified candidates to deliver a hands-on farm-based curriculum, using animals, horticulture, and workshops to engage vulnerable young people. You will work with SEMH needs and trauma-informed approaches, applying de-escalation techniques in a multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

• QTS, QTLS, or Unqualified Teachers / Instructors with a background in SEN, outdoor education, agricultural learning, youth work, or vocational training.
• Outdoor resilience: you must love the outdoors and be ready to work across the farm in all weather conditions - mud, rain, or sunshine.
• Patience & empathy: a natural capacity to build rapport with vulnerable children who have struggled in mainstream schools.
• Adaptability: the ability to think on your feet and adapt learning activities around daily life on the farm.
• Safeguarding: an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service or readiness to complete one immediately and checkable references.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, practical learning experiences using the farm, paddocks, workshops, and surrounding nature as the primary educational tools.
• Integrate core numeracy, literacy, science, and life skills into real-world tasks such as animal care, horticulture, carpentry, land maintenance, and rural projects.
• Work with small groups of young people who experience SEMH needs, neurodivergence (ASC, ADHD), trauma, or high anxiety.
• Use trauma-informed approaches to manage dysregulation and establish clear, empathetic boundaries to help pupils feel safe.
• Collaborate with farm staff, pastoral support teams, and senior leadership to guide each pupil's emotional and academic progress.
