Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking a Family Time Worker to cover a maternity leave period on a fixed-term contract of 9 months from January 2027.

You will supervise family time for children and families across the county, allocated to a family for the session, observe interactions, provide advice when asked and intervene only to protect a child. You will work with very vulnerable children and maintain professional boundaries, requiring DBS check and health clearances.

Qualifications

• NVQ 3 in working with children and families or equivalent experience
• Direct work with children, families and carers in a statutory or voluntary agency
• Flexible to work evenings and occasional weekends (until after 6 pm)
• Have access to a vehicle and a driving licence
• Passion for helping and supporting children and families

Responsibilities

• Help support families to spend quality time with each other when they can't live together
• Be allocated a family and observe interactions, record parenting, provide advice, and intervene to ensure the safety of a child/young person
• Work with very vulnerable children and maintain professional relationships whilst managing complex family needs and behaviours
