Northumberland County Council is seeking a Family Time Worker to cover a maternity leave period on a fixed-term contract of 9 months from January 2027.

You will supervise family time for children and families across the county, allocated to a family for the session, observe interactions, provide advice when asked and intervene only to protect a child. You will work with very vulnerable children and maintain professional boundaries, requiring DBS check and health clearances.

Qualifications

• NVQ 3 in working with children and families or equivalent experience
• Direct work with children, families and carers in a statutory or voluntary agency
• Flexible to work evenings and occasional weekends (until after 6 pm)
• Have access to a vehicle and a driving licence
• Passion for helping and supporting children and families

The Northumberland Family Time (Contact) Service supervise family time for children and families across the county of Northumberland.

This is a fixed term role to cover a period of maternity leave.

What you'll be doing:

• Help support families to spend quality time with each other when they can't live together
• You will be allocated a family and remain within them for the duration of the session, during which they will observe and record the interactions and parenting, provide advice (if requested) and only intervene to ensure the safety of a child/young person.
• Work with very vulnerable children and so we must ensure we maintain professional relationships whilst managing complex family needs and behaviours

What you'll bring:

• A minimum NVQ 3 in working with children and families or equivalent experience of working with children and families
• Experience of direct work with children, their families and carers in a statutory or voluntary agency which provides services to vulnerable children and their families
• Be flexible to work evenings and occasional weekends as needed to ensure we can provide support to families at suitable times. This will involve working until after 6 pm most evenings.
• Have access to a vehicle and a driving licence
• A passion for helping and supporting children and families.

The above post is fixed term for 9 months from January 2027 and subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, references and health clearances.
