Job description

Salary: £35,471 - £41,201 per annum (depending on experience), plus bonus and benefits

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Facilities Team Leaders work 5 days out of 7, between 8am and 8pm. Weekends are required on a rota basis.

About Us

We are Unite Students, a FTSE 100 company and the UK's leading provider of purpose-built student accommodation. We seek great people to join our Customer Operations team as Facilities Team Leaders to deliver outstanding service to our students.

You will oversee a small team of Facilities Team Members, ensuring a well-maintained, safe, compliant, and efficient environment. Your responsibilities include managing planned and reactive maintenance and providing a responsive service to students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Facilities Manager in building and developing a motivated, engaged, high-performance team.
  • Support routine team activities, delegate tasks, and set targets.
  • Train and develop team members to reach their potential.
  • Take ownership of your team's responsiveness to student issues.
  • Participate in performance management and personal development plans.
  • Assume Facilities Team Member duties when the Facilities Manager is on shift.
  • Ensure compliance checks are completed accurately and timely.

You will lead and motivate your team to:

  • Perform general maintenance tasks, such as deliveries, furniture movement, and groundskeeping.
  • Address basic maintenance issues with a can-do attitude, including fixing doors, painting, cleaning, or bulb changes.
  • Assist the engineering team in maintaining property condition.
  • Conduct regular building checks for cleanliness, safety, and security.
  • Contribute to sustainability strategies for net-zero carbon accommodation and resilient assets.

Candidate Requirements

  • Full UK driver's license.
  • Experience or knowledge of maintenance tasks like electrical work, decorating, plumbing, or joinery.
  • Ability to lead the team in the absence of the Facilities Manager and maintain excellent customer service.
  • Capability to balance compliance with providing a top-tier student experience.
  • Fair task delegation, considering team strengths and weaknesses.
  • Effective communication skills, active listening, logical point-making, appropriate language, tone, and gestures.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Calmness and focus under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Respect for diversity of cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds.
