Job summary

Sodexo Ltd is seeking a diligent Facilities Support Assistant to join Trinity Square Student Accommodation in Gateshead. This weekend role focuses on keeping the student environment clean, safe, compliant and welcoming, with duties spanning café support, grounds care and general facilities tasks.

You will help maintain water hygiene, manage records, assist with food safety checks and support arrivals, departures and busy periods, while delivering outstanding service to students and visitors.

Qualifications

• Experience in facilities support, caretaking, cleaning, grounds maintenance or a similar hands‑on role.
• A proactive and practical approach to work.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards.
• Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
• Friendly, approachable and customer‑focused attitude.
• Basic IT skills for completing records and reporting issues.
• Ability to carry out physical duties both indoors and outdoors.
• Willingness to undertake training in areas such as water hygiene, COSHH and food safety.
• Experience of water flushing programmes and compliance record keeping.
• Student accommodation, facilities management or property experience.
• Grounds maintenance or waste management experience.
• Café, hospitality or customer service experience.
• First Aid, Food Safety, COSHH or Health & Safety qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out scheduled water flushing and maintaining accurate compliance records.
• Supporting water hygiene procedures and reporting any issues promptly.
• Maintaining external grounds, courtyards, pathways and communal outdoor areas.
• Litter picking, waste management and ensuring the site remains presentable.
• Cleaning and maintaining communal internal areas, including corridors, stairwells, entrances and shared facilities.
• Identifying and reporting defects, hazards and maintenance issues.
• Supporting the operation of the on‑site café, serving customers and maintaining hygiene standards.
• Completing food safety and temperature checks.
• Assisting during student arrivals, departures, open days and busy operational periods.
• Providing friendly support and guidance to students, visitors and contractors.
• Working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver an excellent student experience.
