Job summary

Dovetail HRS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a permanent role based in Reading, Berkshire. You will travel to client sites across London, Thames Valley and beyond, providing mechanical, electrical and general maintenance services with a company van supplied.

Role requires a flexible approach to include electrical, plumbing, mechanical and maintenance tasks and a strong focus on customer service and delivering full facilities solutions.

Qualifications

• Time-served, multi-skilled engineer with mechanical and/or electrical bias and a recognised trade qualification.
• Experience in hard services/technical FM or building maintenance environment.
• Knowledge of building services systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution, fabric).
• Understanding of health & safety legislation, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work procedures.
• Good communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance across mechanical, electrical, and fabric disciplines.
• Diagnose faults and aim for first-time fix; escalate to Lead Engineer when required.
• Complete allocated jobs via CAFM/helpdesk with accurate updates and closure notes.
• Undertake statutory compliance checks (e.g., water hygiene, Legionella monitoring, fire safety testing).
• Carry out minor installation, repair and improvement works as directed.
• Work safely with RAMS, permit-to-work systems and risk assessments.
• Report health & safety concerns, near-misses, or defects promptly.
• Maintain logbooks, asset records and compliance documentation.
