Job summary

Dovetail HRS is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for a permanent, on-site role in Reading. You will provide mechanical, electrical and fabric services to a broad client base across London and Thames Valley, with travel between sites.

The role includes carrying out PPM and reactive tasks and meeting safety and quality standards. Applicants should be time-served and multi-skilled with a relevant trade qualification and a full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• Time-served multi-skilled engineer with mechanical and/or electrical bias and recognised trade qualification (e.g. City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2/3).
• Experience in hard services/technical FM or building maintenance.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution and fabric systems.
• Understanding of health & safety legislation, safe systems of work, and permit-to-work procedures.
• Good communication skills with a professional, customer-focused approach.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance across mechanical, electrical and fabric disciplines per SFG20 and manufacturer guidance.
• Diagnose and resolve faults, aiming for first-time fix; escalate complex issues as needed.
• Log and close work via CAFM/helpdesk with accurate updates and notes.
• Carry out statutory checks (water hygiene/Legionella, fire alarm/testing, electrical inspections) as competency allows.
• Complete minor installation, repair and improvement works; ensure safe working practices.
