Job summary

Market 36 Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Facilities Maintenance Technician for a permanent role in Braintree. You will support day-to-day site maintenance, perform planned and reactive tasks, and help with building repairs and projects.

You will carry out plumbing work on water heaters and drainage, follow safety regs, read complex system drawings, and work with a small facilities team to minimise downtime. Hours are 07:00-15:00, salary £27,000-£30,000 per year.

Qualifications

• Experience in facilities or building maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Respond to facilities faults and maintenance requests, ensuring work is prioritised and resolved in a timely manner.
• Carry out fault finding and troubleshooting across facilities and building systems.
• Work from complex system drawings and schematics where required.

Job description

Market 36 Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Facilities Maintenance Technician on behalf of our client based in Braintree, on a permanent basis.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day maintenance of the site, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, general building repairs, plumbing work and facilities projects. Working as part of a small facilities team, the successful candidate will ensure faults and maintenance requirements are dealt with safely and efficiently to minimise downtime.

Roles & Responsibilities

Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across the Braintree site.

Complete general maintenance tasks and assist with facilities projects as required.

Carry out plumbing work on water heaters, washroom sanitary equipment, catering services and drainage.

Ensure all plumbing installation and maintenance work is carried out in accordance with relevant British Standards.

Carry out general building fabric maintenance within office and factory areas, including painting, decorating, boarding, carpentry and replacement of fixtures and fittings.

Respond to facilities faults and maintenance requests, ensuring work is appropriately prioritised and resolved in a timely manner.

Carry out fault finding and troubleshooting across facilities and building systems.

Work from complex system drawings and schematics where required.

Identify and report damage, defects and major repairs required across the site.

Clear blockages to toilets and drainage safely, ensuring the correct PPE and barriers are used.

Follow safe working practices, including the development of task‑specific risk assessments.

Raise and work under permits to work and sanctions to test where required.

Liaise with and escort third‑party contractors when required to support the facilities team.

Ensure all maintenance facilities and equipment are used in accordance with current health and safety regulations.

Maintain good housekeeping standards across all working areas.

Work independently where safe to do so and as part of the wider team on larger maintenance tasks and projects.

Carry out additional duties as requested by the Facilities Manager or Maintenance Supervisor in the interests of the business.

Experience, education & qualifications

Previous experience within a facilities maintenance, building maintenance or similar hands‑on maintenance role.

Good understanding of health and safety within the workplace.

Competent in raising and working under permits to work/sanctions to test.

Ability to work from complex system drawings and schematics.

Previous fault finding and troubleshooting experience.

Good practical knowledge and understanding of general plumbing.

Knowledge of Legionella and other water‑related hazards.

Experience carrying out general building maintenance and repairs.

Ability to work using own initiative and as part of a small team.

Good communication skills and a practical, hands‑on approach to work.

Electrical skills or qualifications would be advantageous.

Hours: 07:00 - 15:00 Monday to Friday

Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 per annum
