You will design, develop and coordinate facade systems across commercial, residential and mixed-use developments, collaborating with architects, structural engineers and façade contractors.

Senior level includes leading design packages, client liaison and mentoring junior engineers, with a focus on performance, durability and buildability.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Facade Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in facade engineering, building envelope design or a related technical role.

About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Facade Engineer / Senior Facade Engineer to join a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in London.

This is an excellent opportunity for a facade specialist to work on a diverse portfolio of architecturally ambitious and technically challenging projects across commercial, residential, mixed-use and major urban developments.

Working closely with architects, structural engineers, building services engineers and other project stakeholders, you will contribute to the development of innovative, high-performance facade solutions that balance architectural vision, technical performance, sustainability, buildability and cost efficiency.

Depending on your level of experience, you will have the opportunity to take responsibility for facade design packages, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage client relationships and contribute to the delivery of projects from concept through to construction.

The Role

You will be involved in the design, development and coordination of facade systems across a range of projects, working collaboratively with internal engineering teams, architects, specialist subcontractors and facade contractors.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Developing facade engineering solutions from concept design through to detailed design and construction.
• Undertaking facade assessments and technical analysis to evaluate performance, feasibility and buildability.
• Working on a range of facade systems, including curtain walling, unitised and stick systems, rainscreen cladding, glazing, windows and other envelope solutions.
• Coordinating facade design with structural, civil and building services disciplines to ensure fully integrated solutions.
• Reviewing architectural proposals and providing technical advice on facade buildability, performance, detailing and material selection.
• Assessing facade performance in relation to wind loading, thermal performance, air permeability, water tightness, structural movement and durability.
• Developing facade details, specifications, design reports, technical calculations and project documentation.
• Reviewing technical submissions, drawings, calculations and proposals from facade contractors and specialist suppliers.
• Supporting the assessment of facade materials and systems against relevant building regulations, standards and project-specific performance requirements.
• Contributing to design reviews, risk assessments, value engineering exercises and technical workshops.
• Liaising with clients, architects, contractors and specialist consultants to resolve technical issues and develop practical design solutions.
• Supporting site inspections, construction-stage technical queries and the resolution of facade-related design issues.
• Contributing to sustainable design strategies, material efficiency and the development of high-performance building envelopes.

For candidates operating at Senior Engineer level, additional responsibilities will include leading facade design packages, managing project deliverables, providing technical guidance to junior engineers and supporting client development activities.

About You

Facade Engineer

You will ideally have:

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Facade Engineering or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in facade engineering, building envelope design or a closely related technical role.
• An understanding of facade systems, materials, construction methodologies and detailing.
• Experience supporting facade design development, technical assessments and the preparation of design documentation.
• An understanding of relevant UK building regulations, industry standards and facade performance requirements.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• The ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
• A proactive approach to learning, technical development and professional progression.

Senior Facade Engineer

In addition to the above, you will ideally have:

• Significant experience delivering facade engineering projects within a consultancy, specialist contractor or related engineering environment.
• Demonstrable experience leading facade design packages from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
• Strong technical knowledge of facade systems, structural performance, weatherproofing, thermal performance and building envelope interfaces.
• Experience undertaking technical reviews and assessing facade contractor and specialist supplier submissions.
• The ability to manage project programmes, technical deliverables, resources and client expectations.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams and resolving complex facade engineering challenges.
• The confidence to lead technical discussions, liaise directly with clients and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
• Chartered status, or progress towards professional accreditation through a relevant institution, would be advantageous.

Experience with facade analysis and design tools, such as THERM, WUFI, structural analysis software or relevant facade-specific applications, would be beneficial.
