Job summary

The Gearbox Test Engineer role at GM Performance Power Units focuses on development, validation and reliability testing of Formula 1 transmission systems in a factory environment. You will lead test programs, validate new designs, and drive performance improvements with data-driven methods.

Working closely with design and simulation teams, you will operate advanced test rigs, analyze high‑resolution data, and investigate failures to reduce gearbox wear and maximize durability in race conditions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in mechanical testing with motorsport, automotive, or aerospace experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of gear systems, tribology and lubrication.
• Experience with test rigs and instrumentation including torque, speed, strain and temperature measurements.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop and execute test programs for gearbox systems, including full dyno testing and endurance/life testing.
• Define procedures, instrumentation requirements and acceptance criteria; operate advanced test rigs.
• Analyze high-resolution test data to assess durability, fatigue life and thermal performance; correlate with simulations.
