Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Gearbox Test Engineer to lead development, validation, and reliability testing of F1 transmission systems within a factory environment.

You will drive dyno testing, rig development, and data-driven analyses to ensure gearbox performance and durability exceed extreme competition demands, with cross-functional collaboration across design and simulation teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years in mechanical testing with motorsport, automotive, or aerospace experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of gear systems, tribology, lubrication, and material behavior.
• Experience with test rig operation and instrumentation (torque, speed, strain, temperature).

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute rigorous test programs for gearbox systems and dyno testing.
• Define procedures, instrumentation, and acceptance criteria for tests.
• Operate advanced test rigs simulating real-world race duty cycles.
• Analyze high-resolution data on durability, fatigue, friction, and thermal performance.
• Lead root-cause analysis of gearbox failures and support corrective actions.
• Specify and improve test rigs, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
• Collaborate with design and simulation teams to validate gearbox concepts.
