Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Gearbox Test Engineer to lead development, validation, and reliability testing of F1 transmission systems in a factory setting. You will drive dyno testing, rig development, and data-driven improvements, collaborating with design and performance teams while maintaining rigorous test programs.

The role emphasizes validation of new designs, failure investigations, and performance optimization with no trackside duties, in a startup-style, high-velocity

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in mechanical testing with motorsport, automotive, or aerospace experience preferred.
• Strong understanding of gear systems, tribology, and lubrication.
• Experience with test rigs, instrumentation (torque, speed, strain, temperature).
• Proficiency in MATLAB or Python; familiarity with DAQ systems.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute gearbox test programs including dyno testing.
• Define test procedures, instrumentation, and acceptance criteria.
• Operate and support advanced test rigs simulating race duty cycles.
• Analyze high-resolution test data for durability, fatigue, friction, and oil behavior.
• Lead root cause analyses of gearbox and component failures.
• Collaborate with design, simulation, and manufacturing teams.
• Develop and commission new test rigs and instrumentation.
• Ensure test systems replicate real operating conditions.
