Job summary

GM Performance Power Units is seeking a Gearbox Test Engineer to lead development, validation, and reliability testing for F1 transmission systems in a factory setting. You will run full dyno tests, develop rigs, and analyze data to drive improvements, with no trackside duties.

You will collaborate with design and performance groups, investigate failures, and implement corrective actions while supporting simulation tools and models used for gearbox performance prediction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline.
• 3+ years in mechanical testing in motorsport, automotive, or aerospace preferred.
• Strong background in gear systems, tribology, lubrication, and material behavior.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and execute rigorous test programs for gearbox systems, including full dyno testing and endurance/accelerated life testing.
• Define test procedures, instrumentation needs, and acceptance criteria.
• Operate and support advanced test rigs simulating real-world race duty cycles.
• Analyze high-resolution test data for durability, fatigue life, friction, and thermal performance.
• Correlate test data with simulation models and historical data.
• Prepare clear engineering reports with design and performance recommendations.
• Lead root cause analysis of gearbox failures and drive corrective actions.
• Maintain failure databases and support reliability growth programs.
• Develop, commission, and improve test rigs and instrumentation systems.
• Ensure test systems replicate real operating conditions accurately.
• Collaborate with design and simulation teams to validate concepts and models.
