Job summary

Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust is seeking an experienced General Manager to lead our Urgent and Emergency Care services at Darent Valley Hospital. You will work with clinical leaders to deliver safe, efficient care across ED, UTC, AMU, Frailty, and SDEC, driving improvements and national performance.

The role focuses on service transformation, digitalisation of IT systems, governance, risk management and on-call rota participation, with a strong emphasis on staff development, budget management

Qualifications

• Management qualification at Diploma or 1st Degree level.
• Evidence of continued professional and/or personal development.
• Significant NHS service management experience.
• Experience of managing staff.
• Experience of writing clinical papers on workforce, activity and quality to Board level.
• Experience of business and service planning.

Responsibilities

• Lead operational leadership across Urgent and Emergency Care, ensuring services deliver high-quality patient care within budgets and meet standards.
• Work with clinical and nursing leaders to develop patient pathways and improve services.
• Contribute to strategic, business, capacity and efficiency planning and ensure resources are used effectively.
• Champion digital developments and the modernisation of IT systems within the emergency care pathway.
• Manage delegated budgets in line with financial instructions.
• Analyse performance information and contribute to Board-level reports on workforce, activity, finance and quality.
• Provide leadership to staff including recruitment, retention and development.
• Build relationships with multidisciplinary teams, corporate services and partner organisations.
• Involve patients, carers and staff in service development and address complaints and concerns.
• Support governance, risk management and incident investigations and implement improvement actions.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and Trust policies.
