Job summary

Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford invites applications for the role of Junior Welfare Dean. The appointee will support the Head of Wellbeing, work evenings and weekends, and respond promptly to student welfare issues while upholding college regulations.

This fixed-term contract requires First Aid readiness, discretion, and the ability to liaise with College Nurse and Lodge staff. The post offers welfare duties, crisis support, and a commitment to a safe, respectful College community.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled on a full-time graduate research or graduate medical course at the University of Oxford for the entirety of the appointment.
  • An appreciation of welfare and disciplinary issues relevant within a student community.
  • Excellent communication skills; able to form positive relationships and gain confidence of all sections of the College.
  • Experience with confidentiality, discretion, tact and diplomacy.
  • Willingness to work unsociable hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Valid First Aid at Work certificate or willingness to train to become one.

Responsibilities

  • Deal with emergencies and welfare issues outside normal hours and in crises.
  • Provide crisis support for students on a wide range of welfare issues.
  • Attend weekly briefing with Head of Wellbeing and Nurse.
  • Liaise with Lodge staff to manage disruptive behaviour and events.
  • Support students needing hospital care and coordinate with on-call staff.
  • Share welfare information for coordinated follow-up.
