University of Oxford is seeking a part-time Reader Services Assistant to join the Weston Library team in Oxford. You will welcome readers, assist with enquiries, issue and return materials, and help with catalogues, IT facilities and safe handling of collections.

The role includes moving and shelving items, including rare and fragile collections, with a focus on accuracy, reliability and teamwork in a busy environment. A Basic DBS check will be required.

Competenze

• GCSE level or equivalent.
• Previous library or customer service experience preferred.
• Familiarity with library systems advantageous.

About the role

You will join the Reader Services team at the Weston Library, home to the Bodleian Libraries' special collections, helping readers access its outstanding resources. You will welcome and register readers, respond to enquiries, issue and return material, assist with catalogues and IT facilities, and help maintain safe, welcoming reading rooms. You will also move, shelve and carefully handle library material, including rare and fragile collections.

This is a permanent part-time post, working 9.58 hours per week. The anticipated working pattern is 16:50-19:00 on three weekdays and 09:50-16:00 every other Saturday. Some flexibility may be required.

Due to the nature of this post, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a satisfactory Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check due to access to rare and valuable special collections.

About You

You will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with excellent customer care, clear and courteous communication skills, and good general IT literacy.

You will be reliable, accurate, and comfortable working in a team, prioritising tasks in a busy environment and handling books and journals safely.

Previous library or customer service experience and familiarity with library systems would be advantageous.
