Job summary

Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Library Evening Supervisor on a part-time, permanent basis. This role involves supervising pupils during evening study sessions, maintaining a calm learning environment, assisting library users and carrying out routine library administration.

The position reports to the Deputy Head Librarian and runs 9.5 hours per week, term-time. The role offers a range of benefits including life cover, pension and a learning and development programme.

Qualifications

• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to supervise and engage positively with young people.
• Basic IT skills and confidence using computer systems.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional in approach.
• Experience working in a library, educational, or customer service environment.
• Experience using a Library Management System.
• Knowledge of library procedures and best practice.

Responsibilities

• Supervise pupils working in the Library during evening sessions, ensuring appropriate behaviour and adherence to library rules.
• Maintain a quiet, studious, and welcoming environment that supports independent learning and academic achievement.
• Respond to enquiries providing assistance and guidance where appropriate.
• Operate the Library Management System to issue, renew, and return library resources accurately and efficiently.
• Assist users in locating books, resources, and information within the Library.
• Ensure library shelving is kept tidy, organised, and accurately maintained.
• Carry out routine stock management tasks, including re-shelving returned books and ensuring resources are stored correctly.
• Monitor the condition of library facilities and report any maintenance, health and safety, or safeguarding concerns promptly.
• Prepare the Library in accordance with established procedures.
• Promote a positive and respectful atmosphere within the Library at all times.
• Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role as directed by the Deputy Head Librarian.
