Building Careers UK Ltd is recruiting an Estimator for a construction contractor based in Bolton. The role focuses on producing accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for a range of building projects.

You will review drawings and tender docs, perform take-offs and develop robust pricing with suppliers and subcontractors. Intermediate or experienced estimators are welcome to apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction estimating, ideally with a contractor background.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Strong measurement, take-off and cost calculation skills.
• Good commercial awareness and understanding of construction costs.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
• Ability to manage deadlines and prioritise multiple tenders.
• Proficiency with Excel and relevant estimating tools.

Responsabilités

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to establish project scope and requirements.
• Complete accurate take-offs, measurements and quantity calculations.
• Build up rates covering materials, labour, plant, subcontractor packages and costs.
• Obtain, review and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams to clarify pricing and technical information.
• Identify commercial risks, exclusions, scope gaps and cost-saving opportunities.
• Assist with tender documentation and pricing schedules.
• Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive and submitted on time.
• Maintain pricing records and information.
• Support project handovers with commercial and operational colleagues.
• Contribute to improving estimating processes and tender performance.

About the Company

Our client is an established construction contractor with experience delivering a range of building and construction projects. The business has developed a strong reputation for quality, reliability and effective project delivery, with a focus on maintaining high standards throughout the construction process. Due to continued workload, they are looking to recruit an Estimator to strengthen their commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator or an ambitious Intermediate Estimator looking to develop their career within an established construction business.

The Role

As Estimator, you will play an important role in preparing accurate and commercially competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects. Working closely with the commercial and operational teams, you will review drawings, specifications and tender documentation, undertake detailed measurements, obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, and develop robust project pricing. The business is keen to speak with experienced Estimators who can manage tenders independently, although Intermediate Estimators with the right technical ability, commercial awareness and desire to progress will also be considered. Proficiency in Bluebeam is highly desirable, while experience using Candy estimating software would be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects.

• Maintain clear estimating records and pricing information.
• Work collaboratively with commercial and operational colleagues to support successful project handovers.
• Contribute to improving estimating processes, cost information and tender performance.

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience in construction estimating, ideally within a contractor environment.
• Experience as an Estimator or Intermediate Estimator, depending on level of responsibility.
• The ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Strong measurement, take‑off and cost calculation skills.
• Good commercial awareness and an understanding of construction costs.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
• The ability to manage deadlines and prioritise multiple tender enquiries.
• Software experience: Bluebeam proficiency is highly desirable.
• Experience with Candy estimating software would be a bonus.
• Good general IT skills, including Microsoft Excel.
