Thorn Baker Construction in the South West is recruiting an Estimator to join our established contractor delivering diverse projects across sectors. You will prepare accurate cost estimates and competitive tender submissions, interpreting drawings and tender documents to inform pricing.

You will review costs for materials, labour, plant and subcontractors, obtain quotations, and contribute to value engineering.

Formación

• Previous experience as an Estimator in the construction industry.
• Experience pricing refurbishment, fit-out or general building projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and costs.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• Construction-related qualification is desirable but not essential.

Responsabilidades

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, tender documents and project requirements.
• Produce accurate material, labour, plant and subcontractor costings.
• Obtain and analyse quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Carry out take-offs and measuring quantities from drawings.
• Identify potential commercial risks, opportunities and cost-saving measures.
• Liaise with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal project teams.
• Prepare tender documentation, bills of quantities and pricing schedules.
• Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive and submitted within deadlines.
• Support the handover of successful tenders to the delivery and commercial teams.
• Maintain up-to-date cost information and supplier databases.
• Contribute to value engineering and alternative cost proposals where appropriate.

Location: Bristol / South West

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000, dependent on experience

Are you an experienced Estimator looking for your next opportunity with a growing construction business? Do you have a strong background in pricing construction projects, preparing accurate tenders and identifying cost-effective solutions?

We are recruiting for an Estimator to join an established construction contractor delivering projects across a variety of sectors throughout the South West.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative team, take ownership of the estimating process and play a key role in securing new projects for the business.

The Role

As Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and tender submissions across a range of construction projects, ensuring all costs are carefully assessed and commercially viable.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects.
• Reviewing drawings, specifications, tender documents and project requirements.
• Producing accurate material, labour, plant and subcontractor costings.
• Obtaining and analysing quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Previous experience working as an Estimator within the construction industry.
• Experience pricing refurbishment, fit-out or general building projects.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials and associated costs.
• The ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Experience obtaining subcontractor quotations and negotiating costs.
• Strong numerical, analytical and commercial skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in relevant estimating software and Microsoft Excel.
• A construction-related qualification is desirable but not essential.
