Job summary

Building Careers UK Ltd is seeking an Estimator - Construction in Bolton to prepare accurate cost estimates and competitive tender submissions for diverse construction projects. You will review drawings, specifications and tender documents, performing detailed take-offs and pricing to support successful bids.

Experience in contractor environments, strong measurement and commercial awareness, and proficiency with Bluebeam or Candy estimating are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in construction estimating, ideally within a contractor environment.
• Experience as an Estimator or Intermediate Estimator, depending on level of responsibility.
• The ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Strong measurement, take‑off and cost calculation skills.
• Good commercial awareness and an understanding of construction costs.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
• The ability to manage deadlines and prioritise multiple tender enquiries.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects.
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation to establish project scope and requirements.
• Complete accurate take-offs, measurements and quantity calculations.
• Build up rates covering materials, labour, plant, subcontractor packages and associated costs.
• Obtain, review and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams to clarify pricing and technical information.
• Identify commercial risks, exclusions, scope gaps and potential cost‑saving opportunities.
• Assist with the preparation of tender documentation and supporting pricing schedules.
• Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive and submitted within agreed deadlines.
• Maintain clear estimating records and pricing information.
• Work collaboratively with commercial and operational colleagues to support successful project handovers.
• Contribute to improving estimating processes, cost information and tender performance.

About the Company

Our client is an established construction contractor with experience delivering a range of building and construction projects. The business has developed a strong reputation for quality, reliability and effective project delivery, with a focus on maintaining high standards throughout the construction process.

The Role

As Estimator, you will play an important role in preparing accurate and commercially competitive cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects.

Working closely with the commercial and operational teams, you will review drawings, specifications and tender documentation, undertake detailed measurements, obtain supplier and subcontractor quotations, and develop robust project pricing.

The business is keen to speak with experienced Estimators who can manage tenders independently, although Intermediate Estimators with the right technical ability, commercial awareness and desire to progress will also be considered.

Proficiency in Bluebeam is highly desirable, while experience using Candy estimating software would be an advantage.
