Job summary

Frey Consulting Group in Bolton is seeking an experienced Estimator to join its growing commercial team. You will prepare accurate cost estimates, interpret drawings, and work with suppliers to deliver profitable project outcomes in construction, civil engineering, or manufacturing settings.

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8:30am – 5:30pm | Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

We are delighted to be supporting a successful and forward-thinking organisation with the appointment of an experienced Estimator to join their expanding estimating team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded professional with experience in construction, civil engineering, manufacturing or a related technical environment to take on a varied and rewarding role working across a diverse range of commercial projects.

As an Estimator, you will play a key role in preparing accurate and commercially competitive cost estimates, reviewing project requirements, supporting commercial decision‑making and working closely with suppliers, customers and internal teams to help ensure projects are delivered successfully, efficiently and profitably.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess project enquiries, drawings and specifications to determine scope, requirements and commercial considerations.
• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates and quotations using company estimating systems.
• Interpret technical drawings, schedules and specifications to ensure accurate project pricing.
• Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to obtain competitive quotations, product information and lead times.
• Evaluate supplier pricing and identify opportunities for cost savings and commercial efficiencies.
• Carry out Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) to monitor project financial performance and profitability.
• Support Main Contract Reviews, including programme requirements, delivery schedules and commercial obligations.
• Monitor project profitability through regular monthly commercial reviews.
• Assist with procurement activities and supplier negotiations where required.
• Work collaboratively with Sales Estimating, Design, Operations and Logistics teams to support successful project delivery.
• Triage incoming enquiries, identifying potential opportunities and allocating suitable enquiries to the Sales Estimating team.
• Maintain accurate estimating records and project information across CRM and business management systems.
• Support effective project handovers to operational teams, ensuring all commercial and estimating information is complete and accurate.
• Ensure all work is completed in line with company procedures, quality standards and ISO requirements.

About You

You will be a highly organised and commercially aware professional with excellent attention to detail and strong analytical and numerical skills.

You will ideally have experience working within an estimating, commercial or project‑based environment and be comfortable interpreting technical drawings, specifications and project information.

The following experience would be advantageous:

• Previous estimating experience within construction, civil engineering or manufacturing.
• Experience within construction materials, hard landscaping or a related sector.
• Experience preparing commercial cost estimates and quotations.
• Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• Experience carrying out Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR).
• Knowledge of contract administration and commercial project management.
• Experience working with international supply chains and overseas manufacturers.
