Job summary

DCS Recruitment is seeking an Estimating Engineer in Cardiff to join a growing engineering team. You will focus on producing detailed estimates for piping, mechanical, MEP and fabrication works, including liquid cooling and HVAC projects.

The role requires experience in estimating, project engineering or similar technical environments, with strong piping system knowledge (HDPE, carbon steel, stainless) and solid Excel skills. Cardiff-based, full-time, permanent position.

Qualifications

• Experience in estimating, project engineering or similar technical environment.
• Strong knowledge of HDPE, carbon steel and stainless piping systems.
• Experience preparing piping/mechanical estimates and quotations.
• Ability to read drawings, P&IDs and specifications.
• Experience with material take-offs and labour/resource estimates.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates and quotations for piping, mechanical, MEP and fabrication works.
• Develop estimates for liquid cooling and HVAC systems.
• Complete detailed material take-offs, labour estimates and cost build-ups.
• Review drawings, P&IDs, specs and tender docs to establish project requirements.
• Prepare supplier and subcontractor RFQs and assess quotations.
• Develop construction methodologies, resource requirements and logistics.
• Identify assumptions, exclusions, risks and value engineering opportunities.
• Support tender submissions and ensure estimates reflect scope.
• Liaise with engineering, project, operations and commercial teams during tender.
• Support project handovers after successful tenders.
• Contribute to estimating processes, tools and cost intelligence.
• Manage multiple enquiries and tenders with accuracy.
