Job summary

CBS Recruitment Limited is recruiting a Mechanical Estimator (Ductwork) to support a Hertfordshire HVAC contractor with existing and future tenders. You will prepare cost estimates, take-offs, and detailed tender submissions for ductwork and mechanical works.

The role requires 5+ years of HVAC estimating experience, strong understanding of UK construction practices, and the ability to read technical drawings and tender documents. A car allowance and uncapped bonus are included.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years' experience within a Mechanical/HVAC Estimating role.
• Proven experience preparing detailed HVAC tenders and Bills of Quantities.
• Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and UK construction practices.
• Confident ability to read, understand and interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Proficient in estimating and take-off software, with Ensign experience considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates covering labour, materials, plant, subcontractors and preliminaries.
• Carry out comprehensive HVAC take-offs covering ductwork, air conditioning systems, pipework, plant, insulation and ancillaries.
• Prepare detailed HVAC mechanical tender submissions based on drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Price both Design & Build and traditional tender opportunities, including Employer's Requirements.
• Produce accurate BOQs covering HVAC and related mechanical works.
• Review tender documentation, identifying risks, exclusions, clarifications and value engineering opportunities.
• Prepare and issue enquiries to suppliers/subcontractors, evaluate returned quotations for price competitiveness.
• Maintain records of pricing, labour rates, supplier costs and estimating information.
• Attend and support post-tender interviews with technical and commercial queries.
• Develop and maintain relationships with clients and suppliers.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and site teams to ensure smooth handover after tender awards.

CBS Recruitment are recruiting on behalf of a well established HVAC Contractor based in Hertfordshire for a Mechanical Estimator to support their team with existing and future tenders.

Our client specialise in ventilation design, installation and commissioning across various commercial and industrial sectors.

As a HVAC Estimator you will:

• Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates covering labour, materials, plant, subcontractors and preliminaries.
• Carry out comprehensive HVAC take-offs covering ductwork, air conditioning systems, pipework, plant, insulation and associated ancillaries.
• Prepare detailed HVAC mechanical tender submissions based on drawings, specifications and project requirements.
• Price both Design & Build and traditional tender opportunities, including outline design information and Employer's Requirements.
• Produce accurate Bills of Quantities (BOQs) covering HVAC and associated mechanical works.
• Review tender documentation thoroughly, identifying potential risks, exclusions, clarifications and opportunities for value engineering.
• Prepare and issue enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors, reviewing and evaluating returned quotations to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of pricing, labour rates, supplier costs and estimating information.
• Attend and support post-tender interviews, providing assistance with technical and commercial queries and clarifications.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with existing and prospective clients.
• Work closely with Project Managers and site-based teams to ensure a smooth and accurate handover following successful tender awards.

The Ideal HVAC Estimator will have:

• Minimum of 5 years' experience within a Mechanical/HVAC Estimating role.
• Proven experience preparing detailed HVAC tenders and Bills of Quantities.
• Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and UK construction practices.
• Confident ability to read, understand and interpret technical drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Proficient in estimating and take-off software, with experience using Ensign considered an advantage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
