Job summary

DCS Engineering are recruiting a Senior MEP Project Engineer to oversee the delivery of complex mechanical, electrical and building services packages in digital infrastructure projects.

Working with a Project Manager and delivery team, you will coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces, review drawings and BIM models, supervise procurement activities and support project handover, ensuring safety, quality and programme adherence.

Qualifications

• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Eng., or equivalent.
• Substantial experience delivering MEP or building services packages through design, procurement and construction.
• Proven experience leading complex engineering packages and multi-contractor coordination.
• Experience supporting testing, commissioning and handover.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical coordination and delivery of complex MEP packages within project scope and budget.
• Review drawings, specs, BIM models and quantities; resolve clashes and constructability issues.
• Manage interfaces between mechanical, electrical, civil, architectural and controls teams.
• Prepare technical submissions, shop drawings and RFIs; maintain technical registers.
• Oversee procurement activities, including take-offs, supplier evaluation and cost tracking.
• Coordinate subcontractors and site teams; monitor progress and programme constraints.
• Monitor installation quality; support inspections and close-out of defects.
• Identify risks and provide practical mitigation recommendations to PM.
• Support cost reporting, value engineering and change control.
• Lead package coordination meetings and mentor junior engineers.
• Coordinate testing, commissioning and handover documentation readiness.
• Promote safe working practices and quality assurance throughout delivery.

Senior MEP Project Engineer

Cardiff

Circa £70,000 per annum (DOE)

DCS Engineering are currently supporting a growing engineering and technical organisation with the recruitment of a Senior MEP Project Engineer to support the delivery of Digital Infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineer to work on complex and mission-critical projects. Working closely with the Project Manager and wider delivery team, you will take ownership of engineering packages, coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces and provide technical guidance to engineers, helping ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme, quality and commercial requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical coordination and delivery of complex MEP packages, ensuring alignment with project scope, specifications, programme, quality standards and agreed budgets.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, BIM models and bills of quantities, identifying design gaps, clashes and constructability issues and coordinating their resolution.
• Manage interfaces between mechanical and electrical systems and civil, structural, architectural, controls and specialist systems teams.
• Prepare and review technical submissions, material approvals, shop drawings and requests for information, maintaining accurate technical registers and action records.
• Oversee technical procurement activities, including quantity take-offs, supplier evaluations, quotation reviews and tracking equipment and materials against project milestones.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and site teams, monitoring installation progress and addressing technical, access, sequencing and programme constraints.
• Monitor installation quality and compliance with approved drawings, specifications and project requirements, supporting inspections and the close-out of defects
• Identify engineering, programme and delivery risks, develop practical solutions and provide clear recommendations to the Project Manager.
• Support cost reporting, tender inputs, value engineering and change control, assessing the technical, commercial and programme implications of proposed changes.
• Lead package coordination meetings, review engineering outputs and provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Coordinate testing and commissioning activities, monitor readiness for handover and oversee the close-out of snags, as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals and other handover documentation.
• Promote safe working practices and contribute to technical reviews of method statements, risk assessments and project quality procedures.

Candidate Requirements

• Degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering, or equivalent relevant technical experience.
• Substantial experience delivering MEP or building services packages through design coordination, procurement and construction.
• Proven experience leading complex engineering packages, coordinating multiple contractors and managing multidisciplinary interfaces.
• Experience supporting or overseeing testing, commissioning and project handover.
• Strong technical understanding of a core mechanical or electrical discipline, alongside wider MEP systems and interfaces.
• Knowledge of systems such as HVAC and cooling, power distribution, backup power, plumbing, fire protection and building controls.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications and BIM information, identifying technical issues and coordinating effective solutions.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks or equivalent drawing and BIM coordination platforms, alongside project planning tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6.
• Commercial awareness, including procurement, quantity take-offs, cost monitoring and change control.
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills, with the ability to guide engineers and coordinate effectively with clients, consultants, subcontractors and site teams.
• A proactive approach to risk management, quality, programme delivery and health and safety.
